Yesterday, the RustDesk project officially merged the flutter_desktop branch into the master branch in preparation for the final release.
The first desktop version of RustDesk used Sciter, a relatively niche UI library. The primary reason for choosing it was “small and powerful”, but Sciter is not open source. The author of Sciter launched an open source fundraiser last year, but the response was poor and ultimately failed. Here is a more realistic introduction to the reasons why RustDesk replaced Sciter.
Preparations for the Flutter desktop migration started in May when there was some discussion around Flutter and Tauri, details here.
