In August, Intel provided openVPL support for FFmpeg, which can be used to encode/decode video to AV1 and other formats. Last week, Intel engineers provided FFmpeg with an AV1 Quick Sync Video (QSV) encoder. “Quick Sync” video encoders refer to the use-case of fast transcoding of video from e.g. DVD or Blu-ray discs to a format (mainly H.264) suitable for smart devices such as mobile phones.
