Oracle Linux 8.7 officially released the GA version last week, supporting 64-bit Intel, AMD (x86_64), and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) architecture platforms. Like all Oracle Linux releases, this release is 100% application binary compatible with the corresponding RHEL release.
For 64-bit Intel and AMD architectures, Oracle Linux offers two kernel options, the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK). On the Arm platform, Oracle Linux only provides UEK.
The noteworthy changes in the new version focus on security and high availability, enabling customers to manage their systems more effectively by simplifying task management and large-scale operation and maintenance.
Safety
- Upgraded Network Security Services (NSS) to set the minimum key length setting for all RSA operations from 128 bits to 1023 bits
- More in line with DISA’s STIG requirements for Oracle Linux 8, part of the updated scap-security-guide package
high availability
- Introduced enhancements to Pacemaker, including “multiple-active”, “allow-unhealthy-node”, access control lists and UUIDs for Pacemaker clusters
Other updates include bug fixes and security issues, feature updates, and upgrades to the Application Stream module.
See Release Notes for details.

Oracle Linux is an enterprise-grade Linux distribution supported by Oracle that is built from RHEL source code packages. Unique features of Oracle Linux include a custom and rigorously tested Linux kernel called “Oracle Unbreakable Kernel”, tight integration with most of Oracle’s software and hardware products including database applications, and “zero offline patching” Technology – This feature allows system administrators to update the kernel without rebooting.
