KDE Frameworks is a collection of libraries and software frameworks that can be used by any Qt-based software stack or application on multiple operating systems. With often-needed feature solutions such as hardware integration, file format support, additional graphical control elements, drawing functionality, and spell checking, this collection serves as the technical basis for KDE Plasma and KDE Gear, released under the LGPL.

KDE has officially released KDE Frameworks 5.100 recently, some updates are as follows:

  • Hidden folders can be displayed in the drop-down menu of Dolphin’s path navigation bar.
  • Added a new option to immediately delete trash items larger than the current trash size
  • Makes images of entire KDE applications sharper and better looking on HiDPI screens
  • KDE Frameworks 5.100 improves various charts in the Plasma system monitor app, no more flickering, freezing or stuttering
  • Improved startup of KDE applications so that they no longer hang when files in the “Recent Files” list are inaccessible
  • Updated the eject button for mounted devices in the Dolphin File Manager, which turns into a busy light when unmounting removable devices, so you know when it’s safe to unplug the device
  • The button to permanently delete a file in the dialog has been updated to display “Delete Permanently”
  • The “Recent Files” list has been updated throughout the KDE application to show appropriate icons for recent files
  • KDE Frameworks 5.100 fixes two issues that caused high CPU usage when using AVIF animated images as wallpaper or disabling middle-click to paste and copy certain content.
  • Breeze: Add icons for OpenOffice extensions
