Ubuntu 22.10 will be powered by the Linux 5.19 kernel. Although so far, Ubuntu 22.10 development is still running on the Linux 5.15 LTS kernel. But the latest Kinetic archive shows that Ubuntu 22.10 is switching from Linux 5.15 to Linux 5.19 as the expected kernel for this non-LTS Ubuntu release.

Linux 5.19 was released at the end of July,The stable version of Linux 6.0 will not be released until early October. But Ubuntu 22.10’s kernel freeze date is October 6th, and the stable release date is October 20th. Canonical has always tended to be conservative and would not risk delaying the ticket to choose the latest Linux 6.0 kernel.

Currently, the Linux 5.19 kernel build has been positioned in kinetic-proposed, and will be available soon for Ubuntu 22.10developUser supplied to replace existing 5.15 based kernels. Additionally, Ubuntu 22.10 will ship with GNOME 43 for desktop, Mesa 22.2 graphics drivers, GCC 12 as the default system compiler, and various other updates.
