This year’s winners are Eli Zaretskii, Tad (SkewedZeppelin) and GNU Jami.

  • Eli Zaretskii (Free Software Advancement Award)
  • Tad (SkewedZeppelin) (Outstanding New Free Software Contributor)

Eli Zaretskii (Old friend of Stallman) is the 2022 recipient of the Free Software Progress Award. Zaretskii is currently a co-maintainer of GNU Emacs, one of the flagship programs of the GNU Operating System, and has been a contributor to Emacs for over three decades, coordinating the work of more than 200 active contributors as a co-maintainer.

The 2022 Outstanding New Free Software Contributor Award goes to Tad (SkewedZeppelin), lead developer of the DivestOS project. DivestOS is Fork of LineageOS, which removes many proprietary binaries and makes freedom, security, and device longevity its main focus. In addition, Tad has contributed to the Replicant distribution of Android, a project funded by the FSF.

The GNU Jami is this year’s recipient of the Social Good Project Award, given to a project or team responsible for applying the ideas of free software or the free software movement, emphasizing the use of free software to serve humanity. GNU Jami is a fully decentralized and encrypted video conferencing tool that allows thousands of people around the world to communicate freely and securely.
