uBlock Origin is an efficient filtering tool that supports multiple browsers. It is fast, effective and concise, and supports custom filtering rules.

uBlock 1.48 is officially released, the updates are as follows:

The readiness state at browser startup

On Chromium-based browsers, the readiness of uBO at browser launch is a particularly tricky problem, especially after Chromium 110. This resulted in many reports of “uBlock stopped working”, simply because on startup the browser started loading the webpage before uBO was ready to filter (because the filter list was not fully loaded into memory).

To reduce reports of this issue, which is outside of uBO’s control, uBO’s toolbar icon will now reflect its ready state at browser startup.

• A light yellow toolbar icon means that uBO is currently loading all filter lists into memory, and therefore is not yet ready to filter:

  

• If there is a yellowish ! Badge, which means that the network request issued by the browser cannot be processed by uBO, which may cause some advertisements/trackers/etc. in the opened web pages to not be filtered:

  

• When uBO is ready to filter correctly, if a yellowish ! Badge, which means that the current page is not properly filtered when the browser starts, potentially causing the current page to be plagued by ads/trackers/etc:

  

• To remedy browser startup filtering issues on a webpage, you can simply force a reload of the webpage, which has the effect of re-rendering the badge as expected:

Investigating issues with filters is a seriously time-consuming endeavor, and to help with this, a code viewer has been added to uBO. The code viewer will automatically beautify HTML/CSS/JS code, which should be an improvement on the browser’s built-in view source tool.

When clicking a link in a logger entry, you can view the source code of the beautified HTML/CSS/JS resource.Additionally, if the advanced settings filterAuthorMode set as truean entry labeled “View Source…” will be added to the context menu, so you can view the source code of any page/resource without opening the logger
